Anthony Walters walks it off for the Boise Baconators
Boise, ID - The Boise Baconators narrowly defeated the Idaho Falls Chukars in a thrilling matchup that ended with a score of 7-6.
The Chukars got off to a strong start, scoring four runs in the first inning. Sam Troyer led the game off with a double, followed by singles from Mark Herron and Matt Rodriguez. Zach May then recorded an RBI double, giving the Chukars an early lead. Chris Monroe followed up May's hit with a three-run homer, increasing their lead to 4-0.
However, the Baconators quickly responded in the bottom of the first. DJ Poteet singled to left field, bringing in two runs, while a wild pitch allowed another run to score enabling Boise to close the gap to 4-3.
The game remained intense as both teams battled for the lead. In the fourth inning, Idaho Falls extended their lead with Brandon Bohning's two-run double, making it a 6-3 game. But the Baconators fought back once again in the bottom of the inning. Kaler's RBI single and Sean Skelly's run-scoring single reduced the deficit to one run. An error by the Chukars' third baseman allowed Raymond Gil to reach base, resulting in another run for Boise, tying the game at 6-6.
The score remained tied until the ninth inning when the Baconators capitalized on a Chukars' defensive miscue. With Kenny Oyama on base, Anthony Walters smashed a double to left center, scoring the go-ahead run. The Chukars were unable to answer in the bottom of the ninth, and the Baconators emerged victorious with a final score of 7-6.
Both teams put up a great effort, with notable performances from individual players. Chris Monroe stood out for the Chukars, hitting a three-run homer and finishing the game with three RBIs. For the Baconators, Kole Kaler had a productive day at the plate, going 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
On the pitching side, Andrew Stout started for the Baconators and pitched four innings, allowing six runs. Gavin Gorrell and Gage O'Brien delivered exceptional relief performances, holding the Chukars scoreless over the final five innings. Brian Williams of the Chukars suffered the loss after allowing the winning run in the ninth inning.
The game showcased the competitive spirit of both teams and provided fans with an exciting contest that came down to the wire.
