Game 24 Recap
Boise Papas Fritas sweep the Vibes with a 5-0 win in Game 3
The Boise Hawks dominated the Rocky Mountain Vibes in a 5-0 victory at Memorial Stadium on June 18, 2023. The Vibes struggled to generate any offense, as the Hawks' pitching staff shut them out with a strong performance.
The game started off quietly, with both teams failing to score in the first inning. In the bottom of the second, the Hawks managed to push across a run when Alex Baeza hit into a double play, allowing Sean Skelly to score and give Boise a 1-0 lead.
Boise extended their lead in the fourth inning when Skelly delivered a clutch single, driving in D.J. Poteet to make it 2-0. The Hawks continued to put pressure on the Vibes' pitching staff, adding another run in the fifth inning as Casey Dykstra singled to bring home Eddy Arteaga, stretching the lead to 3-0.
The Hawks' offense kept rolling in the sixth inning, as Alex Baeza launched a solo home run to right field, giving Boise a commanding 4-0 lead. They added to their lead once again in the eighth inning when Dykstra connected on a solo home run of his own, making it 5-0 in favor of the Hawks.
The Vibes struggled to find a response against the strong pitching of Brayden Spears, who tossed six scoreless innings, allowing only four hits while striking out six. The Hawks' bullpen held firm as Mike Peterson and Nate Alexander combined for three shutout innings to secure the victory.
Rocky Mountain's pitching staff did their best to keep the game within reach, but the lack of run support proved to be their downfall. Conner Woods started for the Vibes and pitched five innings, surrendering three runs on six hits. Gaylan Young, Dutch Landis, and Zach Ottinger also saw action on the mound, but they couldn't prevent the Hawks' offense from taking control of the game.
Offensively, the Vibes struggled to string together hits, managing only six hits in the game. Edmond Americaan, Nick Michaels, and Jacob Barfield contributed one hit each, but it wasn't enough to spark a rally. Casey Petersen reached base twice with two walks, but the Vibes couldn't capitalize on their opportunities.
With the loss, the Rocky Mountain Vibes dropped to a 7-16 record on the season, while the Boise Hawks improved to 14-10. The game lasted 2 hours and 23 minutes and drew a crowd of 4,531 fans in Garden City, Idaho.
In a heated contest, both Boise DH Sean Skelly and Rocky Mountain manager Les Lancaster were ejected in the fourth inning for undisclosed reasons. The game showcased the intensity and competitiveness between the two teams.
