Hawks win series against Vibes after 6-4 Game 2 victory
The Boise Hawks secured a close 6-4 victory over the Rocky Mountain Vibes in an exciting matchup on June 17, 2023. Both teams displayed strong performances, but the Hawks managed to come out on top.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Hawks took the lead when Alex Baeza delivered a two-run single, bringing home Raymond Gil and Anthony Walters.
In the top of the third inning, the Vibes fought back. Nick Michaels executed a sacrifice bunt, allowing Milton Smith to score on a fielder's choice by Casey Petersen. However, the Hawks quickly responded in the bottom of the third as Casey Dykstra reached base on an error, which led to Kole Kaler scoring and extending the Hawks' lead to 3-1. Later in the inning, D.J. Poteet's double brought Dykstra home, increasing the Hawks' advantage to 4-1.
The Vibes refused to back down and continued their comeback efforts. In the top of the fourth, Sonny Ulliana singled, driving in Edmond Americaan to cut the deficit to 4-2. They carried the momentum into the fifth inning, where Casey Petersen's double allowed Milton Smith to cross home plate. Dusty Stroup followed suit with a double of his own, bringing Petersen home and tying the game at 4-4.
However, the Hawks wouldn't be denied. In the bottom of the fifth, Anthony Walters singled, enabling D.J. Poteet to score, giving the Hawks a 5-4 lead. The game remained tightly contested, with both teams battling to gain an advantage.
In the eighth inning, the Hawks added an insurance run. Trevor Minder hit a triple down the right-field line, scoring Noah Marcelo and extending the Hawks' lead to 6-4. The Vibes tried to mount a comeback in the final innings but were unable to overcome the Hawks' strong pitching and defense.
Ultimately, the Hawks held on to secure a hard-fought 6-4 victory. Ryley Widell earned the win on the mound for the Hawks, delivering a solid performance over six innings. Casey Dykstra closed out the game, recording the save for the Hawks. Peyton Long took the loss for the Vibes after pitching 4.1 innings.
