Hawks take game one of the three game series against the Ogden Raptors
The Boise Hawks and Ogden Raptors had a high-scoring affair at Memorial Stadium in the first game of the series. Both teams displayed their offensive firepower, but it was the Hawks who emerged victorious with a 9-3 win.
The game started with a bang in the second inning when Hawks right fielder Anthony Walters smashed a solo home run to left field, giving the Hawks an early 1-0 lead. The Hawks continued as Kole Kaler followed up with a two-run homer to right-center, pushing the lead to 3-0.
In the fourth inning, the Raptors responded as Dakota Conners scored on Reese Alexiades' double to left-center, narrowing the gap to 3-1. However, the Hawks extended their lead in the sixth inning when Tyler Jorgensen reached base on an error by second baseman Dakota Conners, allowing Walters to score. D.J. Poteet then reached on an error by third baseman Juan Teixeira, bringing Jorgensen home, and Sean Skelly punctuated the inning with a three-run homer to left field, boosting the Hawks' lead to 8-1.
The Hawks' offensive onslaught continued in the seventh inning as Ronnie Allen Jr. launched a solo home run down the right-field line, extending the lead to 9-1. The Raptors attempted a late comeback in the ninth inning, with Cameron Phelts doubling to right-center and driving in Damian Henderson and Rafael Narea. However, their efforts fell short as the Hawks secured the 9-3 victory.
Boise's starting pitcher, Matt Voelker, delivered a solid performance, allowing only one earned run over six innings while striking out three. Mike Peterson came in as a reliever and closed out the game, allowing two earned runs over three innings while striking out three batters. On the Raptors' side, Mitchell Stone started on the mound, pitching five innings and surrendering three earned runs.
The Hawks' offensive stars shone brightly, with Kaler going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs, including a home run. Skelly contributed with a three-run homer, while Walters and Allen Jr. also added homers to their names. Phelts led the Raptors' offense, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
